| You don't find out much. Most of the men say how annoying the undead are or how they want to kill more of them. Nobody really knows which direction the undead usually come from, but nobody spares showing off how many they've killed. The biggest number you heard was 35. One person thinks that it's a conspiracy of the Mage's Alliance trying to get their hands into the battle of Winterfall, but he was smoking something strange so you're not sure if you want to take his word. | |

| (Tell me if I can't do this)
Vakus is disappointed with the lack of information and tries awhile longer trying to talk to more people to gather some more.

| (I don't think you can repeat a check like that. A single check is exhausting all perceived resources, but gather information checks can arouse suspicion as well.)
After walking around and asking hippies about zombies, you find next to nothing useful. While wondering what you're going to do next, a short man wearing dark leather armor walks up and stands next to you. He doesn't make eye contact, but still speaks. "Nice crossbow, bud. Tell me, what is the incubation period on Ghoul Fever?"
(Heal, Knowledge nature/dungeoneering check. I'll just tell you, the DC is 12. If you don't make that, you can either guess or tell him that you have no idea.)

| Vakus thinks for a moment. "2 days, 4 hours, 42 seconds, 21 milliseconds." he spouts out at the man.

| "An interesting answer, but unfortunately incorrect. Ghoul fever incubates for a single day before it decays the infected creature's body. What kind of affliction is Mummy Rot and how is it cured?"
(Same deal, but 2 checks. One DC 12 and one DC 15. If you don't make it, you can guess or admit you don't know.)

| it's a bacterial infection and amputation is the easiest way to cure it.

| (I don't think Darth Chuck Jackson likes you. You actually made the DC 12 check, so your character would know that mummy rot is a curse not an infection. Do you want to change your answer or stick with amputation?)

| You see a slight smile crack from under the man's hood. "Very good. Here I was thinking that somebody was asking around about undead with no knowledge of them. Impress me now. Wraiths and spectres are similar in how they are incorporeal. They also have life force draining capabilities which differ slightly. What is their difference?"
(Same checks, dc 15.) | |

| "A much more realistic guess than your first attempt, but only partially incorrect. Wraiths and spectres both heal themselves with their drains, but, while wraiths drain one's physical vitality, spectres drain one's essence of its power." He folds his arms across his chest. "You've got a long ways to go before you're going to survive hunting the undead on your own. It isn't just about killing them, it's surviving their long lasting effects as well. Some of them can take over a week to kill you, and believe me, it isn't pleasant. How would you respond if I offered you the chance to learn what you need to know in order to survive hunting the undead?" | |

| "I'm looking for someone to join my squad. Our objective is to quell the undead in order for the army to operate without hindrance. Unfortunately for you, I don't think you're the someone I'm looking for because you lack the experience and knowledge to execute our kind of operations. However, I can point you in the right direction for gaining that vital skill set. Find yourself a paladin. It doesn't matter what deity they follow. If their deity favors them, they're immune to the diseases that the undead carry. There is a small group of zombies headed for this camp. They should be here in a few hours. I want you and whatever paladin you can find to eliminate the zombies before anyone in the camp knows about them. Can you do that for me?" He turns his head and looks at you with a hard face. | |

| Vakus looks back at him with unflinching eyes and thinks for a moment. Working with a paladin is not what he had in mind when he thought about destroying the monsters of the night. But he wasn't left with much choice in the manner without one he would surly die. "Alright I will find a paladin and we will destroy the approaching horde, you can count on me." Vakus looks around the camp it would be a few hours until the paladins arrive this would give him some time to practice shooting some targets, and talking to some of the soldiers. "Is there anything else I need to know before finding a Paladin?" | |

| The man shrugs. "Most zombies are slow. Take advantage of that. Otherwise, just don't die." He walks away. | |

| Vakus walks over to the targets made of hay that some of the soldiers are shooting at and begins to fire into them. Waiting for the Paladins to arrive. | |

| An hour of shooting hay later, a lone paladin walks into the camp. You mentally note that you have roughly two hours before the zombies reach the camp and you fail your mission. | |
