Carthyra Alinyas found her calling in life later than most Elves. At 140 years old, she discovered that the dripping fat from cooking meat mixed with ashes of a fire and made a cleaning substance. This enthralled her to try mixing other things. After a year of secret experimentation, she discovered that mixing certain mushrooms, the buds of a certain flower, some water, and heating the mixture, it would simmer down to make a paste that would soothe burns and small cuts. Upon showing her discovery to her family (She still lived with her parents despite her older siblings finding professions/spouses and moving out) her father proposed she take up an apprenticeship at an apothecary. She spent two years learning under that teacher, but after ruining one potion resulting in that apothecary's client violently vomiting for hours, he referred Carthyra to his competitor to continue her apprenticeship there.
